ABOUT US
Founded in 1921, Soroptimist is an international organization for business
and professional women and men who provide volunteer service to their communities.
Almost 100,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories contribute
time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls. Soroptimist members belong to local clubs, which determine the focus of service to their communities.
The name Soroptimist means "best for women", and that is exactly what the organization strives to achieve.
The Soroptimist International of Maui Club works hard to raise money for projects such as: Youth Citizenship Awards (YCA) for deserving high school seniors, Jr. YCA for eighth graders who commit their time to community service, Sharon Okumura Nursing Awards for students attending the Maui Community College Nursing Program, and Women's Opportunity Awards (WOA) for women who are heads of their households and re-entering the workforce, seeking assistance in furthering their education for the betterment of themselves and their families.
The Maui Club has also participated in and contributed to: A Keiki's Dream Organization, American Cancer Society, "Art of Hope" Project, children advocacy, Hale Makua, Hawaii Canines for Independence, Japanese Cultural Society, Kidney Foundation, literacy programs, local schools, Maui Adult Day Care Center, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Maui Food Bank, Maui Youth and Family Services, Salvation Army and Women Helping Women. Soroptimist International of Maui members donate freely of their time and money to serve their community and support the vision of the Soroptimist International Organization.
